Looking for a weekend setup without permanent racks. Tail bag is enough volume, but I do not want straps sawing into the tail plastics. What mounting tricks have held up?

Street miles, track lessons.

A fitted tail-bag base under the passenger seat has worked well. All buckles stay away from painted panels and the bag clips off at fuel stops.

    Smooth is fast enough.

Clear protective film on contact points is cheap insurance even when the straps seem stable in the garage.

Pack lighter than the bag allows. Extra weight high and behind the axle changes the bike more than I expected.

    Ride your own pace.
