Upshifts are clean when accelerating but clunky around town at low rpm. Chain slack is in spec. Is that just where these systems work poorly, or should I look at linkage and sensor adjustment?

Most OEM quickshifters want a positive throttle and some load. Around-town short shifts are often smoother with the clutch, especially first to second.

    Street miles, track lessons.

Check that the shift rod joints move freely and the lever is not adjusted into an awkward angle. Mine improved after fixing a slightly binding heim joint.

If it changed suddenly, inspect it. If it has always behaved that way only at low load, that sounds more like normal calibration than a fault.

    Maintenance before modifications.
