Has anyone linked a good eastbound and westbound loop using established public roads while keeping Interstate 84 to a minimum?

Smooth is fast enough.

    An early weekday start has worked best for me. I plan fuel conservatively and treat shaded corners as a different road surface.

    Check the state road and forest-service notices the same morning. Seasonal damage and temporary work can make last month's route advice obsolete.

    Keeping the group small and regrouping at established stops makes these roads much more enjoyable for everyone who lives there.
